Our Teacher & Group

Our Teacher

Geoff Dawson is a Dharma Successor of Charlotte Joko Beck and the teacher of the Ordinary Mind Zen School, Sydney & Melbourne. He began the school in 1998 and received Dharma Transmission in 2003.

He has been studying and practising Zen Buddhism since 1975 and was one of the founders of Zen in Australia. He has presented at many seminars and conferences in Australia on Buddhism and Psychotherapy.

Geoff Dawson is also a registered psychologist and works in full time private practice at North Sydney. He provides adult psychotherapy, couples therapy, family therapy and clinical supervision which is integrated into a Buddhist perspective.

Our group

Our Sangha (community) is a small but dedicated group of practising students at Ordinary Mind Zen Melbourne. By each helping to support the Sangha, the practice is strengthened for the group as a whole.

We hold monthly meditations at Kangaroo Ground, near Eltham and Warrandtye. We also hold multi-day intensive meditations retreats (Sesshin) with our teacher Geoff Dawson once a year in Melbourne.

Our committee coordinates our activities and practice and  includes:
